Names, Dates, and History

Last week, Trump signed another of his now World famous executive orders. This new ‘order’, signed on Friday, September 5, 2025, changes the Department of Defense to the Department of War.

Trump likes the ‘feeling’ of the name, it has “a stronger sound”, he said in August, 2025. Trump likes ‘strong’ and ‘tough’ things, people, places, and words.

The Department of War was originally created in 1789. Resulting from an amendment to the National Security Act of 1947, which unified the branches of the military, the name change went live in 1949.

There are other names with dates that illustrate ‘strong’ and ‘tough’; dates that don’t get enough attention.

So, let’s take a look at a few dates from the 1960s and 70s.
