The immediate former president of the United States of America – twice impeached, four criminal indictments, 91 charges, civil indictments, etc., etc., etc., Donald J. Trump – is the leading Republican choice for the 2024 presidential election; (almost) certain to be the Party’s nominee.
Trump’s one-term presidency was nothing but a constant attack on the very foundation of the nation. But if elected again, he has made it clear that what he attempted previously would be completed in toto. And, to accomplish his death wish for America, he is straight-out using and will continue to use a very familiar playbook… .

In the last parliamentary elections of the Weimar Republic in March 1933, the Nazis polled 44% of the vote – not enough for a majority but enough to put down any future political resistance. Within two weeks Adolph Hitler proposed the Enabling Act, a temporary dissolution of the constitution while he dealt with the ‘problems’ facing the nation. The Reichstag passed the proposal 441 to 84. There would be no more elections nor a constitution to keep Hitler in check. The Reichstag had, in effect, voted away its own power.
Capitalizing on the nation’s instability, the temporary became permanent. Hitler took the opportunity to purge anyone whom he disliked or had crossed him; within a matter of weeks it had become illegal to criticize the government. A new secret police force, the Gestapo, immediately began arresting ‘unreliable’ persons, and Dachau, the first concentration camp, was opened to imprison them. Trade unions were banned, freedom of the press curtailed, and all other political parties declared illegal.
Germany had become a one-party state with Hitler its leader, and soon its dictator.

As detailed in an excellent piece at Crooks And Liars, the far-right, fascism-loving MAGA Mob is taking its cue from the former guy (TFG) and going after judges and FBI agents. They, and the politicians and pundits who rely on the ‘Mob’ for money and headlines, are following a playbook that previously worked, which, as sane people on planet Earth know, had catastrophic consequences. Question is, will those who want the American Experiment to continue stand up against these domestic terrorists and traitors who want to take the United States into that playbook?
