With a smile as big and bright as sunshine itself, President Joe Biden on Thursday stood in front of the White House surrounded by a party of well-healed white folk touting those infamous words, “We have a deal”! The declaration not to be mistaken, of course, with those other political-career-ending-words, “Read my lips. No New Taxes”!
A White House fact sheet on the new agreement lists “unemployment insurance program integrity” as one of the $579 billion plan’s pay-fors, alongside other funding sources that critics say amount to an infrastructure privatization scheme. The bipartisan group of senators that struck the deal with Biden reportedly believes $80 billion in revenue can be derived from a crackdown on unemployment fraud.
The real dollar amount of real unemployment fraud amounts to about 144 dollars, U.S. (OK, I made up that number, obviously; but it’s not that far off).
