Alvarez Knocks Out Kovalev

In what some in boxing are calling “a shocking upset”, Eleider Alvarez (24-0, 12 KOs) took out World Boxing Organization light heavyweight champ Sergey ‘Krusher’ Kovalev (32-3, 28 KOs) with a 7th round knockout on Saturday night in Atlantic City.

Unbeaten Alvarez, from Columbia, knocked the long-time belt holder Kovalev to the canvas three times in the seventh. Referee David Fields stopped the fight at the 2:45 mark.

Kovalev, from Russia, but fought most of his matches in the U.S. and Canada, was ahead on all scorecards into the seventh round.
