WayBack Wednesday: Fluttering and Flailing In A Wave Of False Claims
U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) on Wednesday fluttered, flailed, and danced around reporters fact-checking his claim that Democrats were responsible for the government shut down because ‘they wanted to lavish undocumented immigrants with free health care.’ That is false.
Additionally, during an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, Johnson was brutally fact-checked on his freakish claims about the Democratic proposal to extend tax credits for the Affordable Care Act that were set to expire at the end of the year. Undocumented immigrants are not eligible for those tax credits, and an estimated 5.1 million Americans will lose their insurance by 2034 if ACA funding expires at the end of the year, according to the Congressional Budget Office.
Also, even Fox News pushed back on Johnson’s claim that it’s a Democratsshut down.
When you have control of the House of Representatives, the Senate, the White House, and six right-wing conservative Justices on the Supreme Court, the argument that it’s ‘their’ fault doesn’t, I think, ring true.
Just to be clear, Republicans had enough votes to pass a budget (but on pressure from Trump, Johnson chose the shut down) and they still have the votes to end the shut down, today!
But it’s not the first time Johnson played with or lied about the nation’s budget in public.
Far-right Republican Congressman and fake Christian Mike Johnson, who just happens to be Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and second in line to the Presidency, is at it again in his role as Supreme Lackey, conveniently forgetting that his position does not require him to be a butt-boy for Trump but does require him to be Speaker for the nation.
But maybe it’s just that being a butt-boy is his calling.
Anyway, examples abound in the recent past and new ones should take no one by surprise; after all, he is Mike Johnson.
