Legacies, Reelections, And, Oh Yeah, The American People
The infrastructure bill was signed on Monday. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) on Friday will score the $1.85 billion Build Back Better Act.
The ‘score’ is the method by which the CBO will analyse, then – determine, predict, guess – if the U.S. has, will have in ten years, might have had sometime in the past, the money to pay for the BBB package.
Corporate/Conservative/Right-Wing Democrats in the House of Representatives made the CBO analysis a condition of their possible support of this latest version of the scaled back bill. But no guarantees.
David Roberts at Vox said this about the ‘score’:
“The same corporate ‘moderates’ feigning concern about the CBO score are the ones fighting to reduce taxes on the wealthy in the bill. The deficit’s got fuck-all to do with it”.
Blocking the ‘score’ would require a rule change. “And if Democrats can’t manage to pass one, they’ll have only themselves to blame for the collapse of the bill that Nancy Pelosi has called her legacy, that Joe Biden has staked his campaign slogan on, and that nearly all Democrats have run on, in some way, for the last six to 16 years”.
