Tȟašúŋke Witkó, known as Chief Crazy Horse, leader of the Oglala band of Lakota (or, Western Sioux) was murdered on 05 September 1877 by a United States soldier when he resisted being subjected to confinement in a ‘guardhouse’ at Fort Robinson, Nebraska.
Tȟašúŋke Witkó was one of the leaders in the defeat of U.S. General George Custer’s Seventh Calvary in what became known as the Battle of Little Big Horn in Montana Territory.
He was 36 at the time of his death.
