‘I Will Stand In The Way’ Of Any Help To End The Suffering And Death
In response to President Biden pointing out that “Just two states, Florida and Texas account for one-third of all new COVID19 cases in the entire country”, and admonishing the governors of those states with, “If you are not going to help then at least get out of the way of the people that are trying to do the right thing”, Florida Governor Ron De(ath)Santis* told his constituents, the nation, and the whole world that he would indeed stand in the way of any help from the Biden administration to end the suffering and death in his state.
De(eath)Santis, a smaller version of that other guy, the orange-faced guy, had this to say to Biden:
“If you’re coming after the rights of parents in Florida? I’m standing in your way. I’m not going to let you get away with it.
“If you’re trying to deny kids a proper in-person education, I’m gonna stand in your way and stand up for the kids in Florida. If you’re trying to restrict people and impose mandates and ruin their jobs and livelihood, if you are trying to lock people down, I am standing in your way. I am standing for the people of Florida.”
“I don’t want to hear a blip about COVID from you.”
A reality check, however, coming not from the Biden administration but from the Miami Herald shows what De(eath)Santis standing in the way has meant for his state:
Florida, which represents about 6.5% of the U.S. population, accounted for 16% of the country’s new cases on Tuesday, based on the data the state is reporting to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The state’s seven-day average of new cases was 17,756 as of Aug. 3, up from a seven-day average of 2,195 on July 3, a 700 percent increase.
Additionally, as reported by John Amato at Crooks and Liars:
Kids are being infected by the Delta variant at an alarming rate as well as adults. It’s COVID that’s knocking people down in Florida. Not Biden.
It’s not mandates or masks in schools that are infecting and killing Floridians.
It’s Ron DeSantis standing in the way of the health and safety of the citizens of Florida.
