The Mid-Life-Crisis Escape For (Mostly)White Men Was Born
On 28 June 1953, at a Chevrolet plant in Flint, Michigan, workers assembled the first Corvette, a two-seater sports car that would become an American icon. The first completed production car rolled off the assembly line two days later, one of just 300 Corvettes made that year.
The car was powered by a 235cid Blue Flame 150hp engine, Powerglide automatic transmission, three Carter YH carburetors and dual exhaust; with a hand-laid fiberglass body.
The only options available in 1953 were a Wonder Bar AM radio and a heater.
