1562 – Kissing in public banned in Naples (punishable by death).

1926 – Bertha Landes elected 1st woman mayor of Seattle, Washington.

1959 – Barbie (doll) makes her debut at the American Toy Fair in New York. Over a billion have been sold worldwide since.

1990 – Dr. Antonia Novello is sworn in as Surgeon General of the United States, becoming the first female and Hispanic American to serve in that position.

2021 – Arkansas Republican governor Asa Hutchinson signs law banning nearly all abortions. Law makes no exception for pregnancy through rape or incest. Makes exception in some instances when pregnancy poses a risk to mother’s life.

2021 – Republican lawmaker in Texas introduces bill that would allow the death penalty for women who have abortions. “Today, I filed HB 3326 to Abolish Abortion in Texas”, State Rep Bryan Slaton (on Twitter). With HB 3326, a person who has an abortion or performs an abortion could be charged with assault or homicide, which is punishable by death.
