Ahmaud Arbery was murdered on 23 February, 2020, while jogging in a mostly white suburb of Brunswick, Georgia.
Arbery, who was 25 at the time of the shooting, had long been jogging around the neighborhoods of Brunswick. A former standout high school football player, jogging in the local neighborhoods was a regular routine for Mr. Arbery.
On that day, Mr. Arbery was chased and murdered by a white retired police officer and his son; a third white local neighbor took a video of the shooting.
It was only after the video of the shooting went viral and national outrage erupted that arrests and charges were made – which was by then months after local authorities had refused to act saying the shooting, the murder, was justified.
