Never Forget: 19 April 1995

A terrorist attack on 19 April 1995 at the Alfred P. Murrah federal building in Oklahoma City killed 168 people including 19 children and over 850 were injured. It was the deadliest act of domestic terrorism in U.S. history.

The bomber Timothy McVeigh, a U.S. Army veteran, had a history of ties to right-wing anti-government groups and claimed the bombing was revenge for “what the U.S. government did at Waco and Ruby Ridge”.

McVeigh and primary accomplice Terry Nichols were convicted of the attack. McVeigh was executed in 2001. Nichols is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole. Accomplice Michael Fortier, not directly involved in the bombing but knew of the conspiracy, cooperated with Federal and State law enforcement and was given a 12-year sentence.
