They Are Not Going Away

Long Island student-organizations, relatives of victims of the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, local politicians and activists of all ages demanding sensible gun laws were out in force Sunday at Breezy Park in Huntington Station, NY. The student-led rally drew about 600 people calling for an end to the epidemic of gun violence in America, including Melissa Zech, whose brother, Scott Beigel – a teacher at the high school, was among the murdered on February 14, 2018.

And no one shied away from the reality that it will take voting out of office politicians who take money from the NRA and who refuse to act to protect kids from being murdered in school.

Avalon Fenster, a co-founder of the Long Island chapter of March For Our Lives, spoke to the crowd and she did not hold back. The sixteen year old from Huntington stunned the crowd and drew loud cheers when she said: “Gun violence in America is domestic terrorism”.

Fenster and others called for solidarity against gun violence and for a commitment to working everyday to get all generations registered and to follow through with their vote. Call of the day was loud and clear: if politicians won’t listen – Vote Them Out!
